Biography
Raised in Hong Kong, Stella Yu is a professional cellist and cello teacher. YU completed her Master of Music Degree and Bachelor of Music Degree at The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts under the tutelage of Professor Ray Wang and Dr. Letty Poon. She was a recipient of the SAR Philharmonic Scholarship, Parsons Music Foundation Scholarship, The Society of the Academy for Performing Arts Scholarship, and Jackie Chan Charitable Foundation Scholarship, in recognition of her outstanding academic studies and performance at the academy.
YU performed in a number of cello and chamber masterclasses and music festivals. She has taken part in masterclasses led by Philippe Müller, Gary Hoffman, Jens Peter Maintz, László Fenyö, Martin Löhr, Timothy Eddy, Li-wei Qin, Csaba Onczay, also Miami String Quartet, Endellion Quartet, Orion String Quartet, Shanghai Quartet, and Debussy String Quartet. She participated in the Festival MusicAlp 2017 in France; the Kronberg Academy’s Cello Masterclasses 2014 in Germany.
In 2013, she won a place in the ‘Share the Stage’ program with conductor Mr. Lorin Maazel and the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra. Since then, YU has been a sought-after orchestra freelancer. She performed with Hong Kong String Orchestra, In-heritage Philharmonic, the Hong Kong Virtuosi, Cellistra, Gustav Mahler Orchestra, Opera Hong Kong, and Pan Asia Symphony Orchestra.
She had also performed in pop concerts, recording sessions, and business events. She recorded “The Swan” by Saint-Saëns for the film “A Pair Of” by Wong Fei Pang, director of the movie “Ten Years”. She performed in CCTV’s New Year’s Concert 2020 and CCTV Music’s Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area Cross-screen Music video. She was an orchestra member in the Hans Zimmer Live On Tour 2019 Live in Hong Kong. Also, she performed in Justin Lo’s chapter free concert (2017) and G.E.M. X.X.X LIVE (2013) as a solo cellist.
She is passionate about educating the next generation. She is a cello teacher with many years of experience in cello teaching and string ensemble teaching. She provides private cello lessons, and she also teaches cello classes in schools. Her students have won awards in different music competitions.
She was the adjudicator of the preliminary round of the VIAF Vienna International Music Competition 2024 (Hong Kong), IYMC Hong Kong Intercultural Young Musicans Competition 2023, Hong Kong Youth Cup International Music Contest, Hong Kong Charity Music Festival Competition 2019, and Summer Music Gala 2019.
俞菁妍 — 專業大提琴演奏家及大提琴教師，於香港演藝學院完成音樂碩士及音樂學士課程，師承王磊教授和潘穎芝博士。她為香港愛樂團獎學金、柏斯音樂基金會獎學金、演藝學院友誼社奬學金和成龍慈善基金奬學金之得主。
俞氏參加過不同的獨奏和室內樂大師班，包括由Philippe Müller, Gary Hoffman, Jens Peter Maintz, László Fenyö, Martin Löhr, Timothy Eddy, Li-wei Qin 及 Csaba Onczay 舉辦的大提琴大師班；由邁阿密弦樂四重奏、安德里昂四重奏、上海四重奏和德彪西弦樂四重奏舉辦的弦樂四重奏大師班。她曾參加2017年法國MusicAlp音樂節、2014年德國克倫貝格學院大師班，亦曾參與2013年馬捷爾及香港管弦樂團同台演奏計劃。
俞氏活躍於室內樂和樂團演奏。她曾與香港弦樂團、傳承愛樂、香港名家樂友、Cellistra、馬勒樂團、香港歌劇院及泛亞交響樂團等合作。
俞氏亦參與不同的流行音樂會、錄音製作及活動演出。包括《十年》導演黃飛鵬作品微電影《一雙》配樂、央視2020新年音樂會、央視音樂頻道粤港澳大灣區11城市跨屏合奏、Hans Zimmer 巡迴音樂會2019香港站、側田Chapter Free演唱會及鄧紫棋G.E.M. X.X.X. LIVE世界巡迴演唱會香港站中擔任大提琴獨奏等。
俞氏擁有多年大提琴教學及弦樂重奏教學經驗，致力培訓下一代音樂人才。她現為私人大提琴導師及學校樂器班之導師。她的學生連續多年於不同音樂比賽中獲獎。
俞氏為第2屆維也納國際音樂大賽2024(中國賽區預選賽香港站)、2023全港中西匯萃青少年音樂家大賽、香港青少年盃國際音樂比賽、香港慈善音樂節比賽2019、 夏⽇⾳樂頌音樂⼤賽2019之評審。
